“I am in love with Montana. For other states I have admiration, respect, recognition, even some affection, but with Montana it is love, and it’s difficult to analyze love when you’re in it.” - John Steinbeck
Jeremy & I have spent the last couple months finishing up The Endless Project that is known as our home. After years of eyeing a parcel of land and big dreams of building a home to our specifications, that sweet piece of land has been developed and placed on the market for sale. We have the lot on hold and have recently listed our house for sale.
Looking back on the paperwork and descriptions of the property when we bought it makes me realize just how much work we have lovingly put into this funky little house. We have literally poured our blood, sweat, and tears into making improvements to the place.
Over the span of about 6 years, it hasn't seemed like much - I think the memories of months of pain and labor diminish over time. For example, the year after we bought the place, we decided to put in an underground sprinkler system. Stupidly, we decided to start the project in the hottest months of the years. I didn't realize it was physically possible to sweat gallons of water. Or the following year, when we decided to reside the entire house ourselves. Not only did we have to rip off all the old cedar siding, but we wrapped the house in Tyvek, replaced some windows and doors, repainted the rest of the windows, and spent about 3 months nailing new boards up. We had some assistance from Jeremy's family for almost a week, which was a huge help, but they had to leave before we were even close to being done. We were left with a house that was only 1/6 finished and that same day, the air conditioner and computer monitor broke. We didn't officially finish the siding project until almost a year later. Talk about a lot of memories!
I look at pictures of the place now and it hardly looks like what we bought back then. The yard is hugely improved and expanded. The trees have flourished and I feel like we are camping when we are sitting by the fire during the summer. The inside has gone from boring white scuffed up paint to bold yellows and greens in the great room. It gives the place the personality it deserves. Needless to say, I'm proud of the work we have put into our home and I think it shows that the house has been loved for the past 6 years.

Now, let's hope it sells...
